San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report
Happy New Year to all.
The river flow is around 500 cfs. The water clarity is 18-24". Fishing has been good fishing from the catch and release to the take out. White bunny leeches #8-10 and red larva #16-22 have been the ticket. Leech patterns of all colors should working. Black, olive, gray, or grizzly. Egg patterns are working.
Princess#22 and desert#24 storms been working too.
The upper area has been having a #24-26 black midge hatch late am early pm. #24-26 black Krystal flash midge or scintilla bubble is working. If the fish are rising a dark midge cluster pattern 16-20 should get you hooked up. When fishing the leeches try dead drifting and that not working try stripping with small erratic motions to trigger a hit.
Texas hole on down has a decent beatis hatch early pm.#20-22 Chocolate, or gray foam wings, rs2, and pheasant tails.
San Juan River Fishing Forecast:
Fishing will improve with the spawn and spring beatis start kicking in.
