Lake Ontario Fishing Report

Capt. Troy Creasy
July 12, 2009
Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

The Kings are Here!!

North to the Shipping lanes and west to Fairhaven the eastern basin of Lake Ontario is choked with large numbers of spoon and fly gobbling Chinook salmon.

The last six days aboard the High Adventure it has been Bang Tango with double figure hook-ups every trip out.

Look for the cold 49 degree water and set up in it and just above it. Early morning run a green e-chip flasher with an Atomik TG fly on one downrigger and a White Green dot Spin Dr with a glow green or glow hammer Atomik fly. Send them down from 110 to 140 and you are in their dining room. Run 2.1 to 2.4 and look for bait and current lines.

When the sun gets high switch to a green dolphin spinny with a hammer fly and a chartreuse e-chip with a hammer or glow big fine fly.

On the divers and copper about the same thing but mix it up as light conditions change.

I have been working 160 to 220 FOW, but many boats are doing well in 300 to 400 too.

It is time. If money is tight and you have been waiting for the big boys to show up call us now as Shelley and I are not going to the ICAST show in Orlando as planned so therefore I am open all next week, Monday to Friday.

Jack Conlan and his good friend Debbie spent a few days with me. Jack has been with me since 2001 and this was by far his best trip. He set in the chair and fought fish until he couldn't do it anymore. Day one was all big adults up to 24 pounds. Day two jack tugged on over 20 salmon. He was whipped, but seldom does he lose a fish.

Day three was the nicest day weather wise and they still bit like crazy. Unbelievable numbers!

Jeff & Marie along with Kenny hit it again at the right time. A gorgeous day on the water and a good

Today I booked a charter during the Oswego Pro-am which is something I don't normally do because of all the boat traffic. But I can't turn a trip down this year so off we went. Although many of the tournament boats worked hard for a few fish, we were on the spot again banging on them in rough water and stiff southwest wind. Real tough conditions but we filled the box!
