Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report
The salmon fishing on Lake Ontario continues to be Red Hot!
Even though some big blows have beaten us up over the last few weeks the fish appear to be here to stay.
The largest concentration of fish seems to be between Sodus Bay and Oswego in 150 to 300 FOW. Or it could be up north between the pond and Southwick beach, or it could be west of the ducks in the shipping lanes, or perhaps the largest school hasn't even shown itself yet. What I am saying is that the salmon are everywhere and you too should be here to catch them.
Run flashers & flies, spoons, and even cut bait is returning to the scene. It seems that everything is working right now.
Not only are we catching good numbers of salmon, but they are big and healthy. We are seeing fish everyday between 20 and 25 pounds.
Here are few good programs
Run a Pro Troll green echip with a #41 Atomik fly
A chrome/green dot/ Spin Dr with a sweet pea fly
A white chip with a live series L220 atomik fly
A green glow Smartfish set on a 11:30 setting (causes a big roll) with a long 24 to 25 inch leader and a glow green or big fin glow fly in the sun. This rig is great on a copper or diver rig.
Gary Edwards LOO Travel Editor and his son Jason DSR Manager joined me for an afternoon adventure.
We spanked them good for just a few hours effort. It was fun just to relax, something I have a hard time doing. I even landed one myself. Something I never do!
Brian Kelly joined me for a few hours on the big pond. It was a slow bite for us but we managed a few for the camera and Brian's dinner. Brian will be writing for us in some future issues of Lake Ontario Outdoors. Look for a float fishing article by him in the Fall issue this Septemeber.
