Lake Ontario, Oneida Lake, Sandy Pond Fishing Report

Capt. Troy Creasy
September 3, 2008
Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Salmon fishing on many parts of the lake continues to be outstanding. Anglers in the Oswego, Mexico and Pulaski area have been catching salmon from 200 ft. of water inshore to 60 ft. Just east and west of Oswego the thermocline has been 75-80 ft. below the surface. A variety of bait is working... flies, spoons and j-plugs. E-Chip & Spin Doctor attractors with theHammer, green glow, sweetpea, Big-fin, mirage have been taking fish. A variety of spoons have also been working well including the Nk Mags in green glow and the green dolphin.

Frank & Patty (Home Office) and Jim spent the morning with me and the bite was on big time. We really did lose track how many we hit.15 plus for sure!!

Bob Britton and his family hit them good again this year.We didn't have the landing percentage we would have liked, but what a great bite. They just weren't serious about eating it.

The walleye action has been good on Oneida Lake. Troll the deeper water pulling lead core in five or six colors. Jr. thundersticks and rapalas are working well. Fish anywhere from Buoy 121 to Buoy 109 but fish the north side of the buoys. Bass are active along the rock piles using crayfish.

I hear there is some action on the salmon river for a few early kings that came up. There should be a fishable number of fish in the river at this time. Don't be afraid to do some scouting.
