Lake Ontario, Oneida Lake, Sandy Pond Fishing Report

Capt. Troy Creasy
June 30, 2009
Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

The month of June is all but in the books.

Not a banner month by any means but in the last five days there was more fish caught in the eastern basin then there was the entire month so things are improving daily.

The kings are back and hopefully to stay.

The Mustad Challenge was held at the Oswego Marina over the weekend and 52 boats competed for several thousand dollars in cash and prizes.

It was a good time had by all and the local economy was once again stimulated by fishing anglers and tourists. Congratulations to Team Screamer on the 1st place finish and all the teams that entered. And to my new charter crew that entered the challenge and came away with a 7th place finish with browns. Hard to compete with big kings but we did it.

Speaking of kings 100 to 200 FOW just west of Oswego is producing fair to good catches every day. 50 to 100 down green e-chip flashers with Atomik green glow, green crinkle and hammer flies and white green dot spin Drs with the same flies are the ticket. Many fish in the 15 to 22 pound range have been caught recently.

Brown trout are being kind of stingy as they bite good one day and refuse to open their mouths the next. Dream Weaver Super Slim spoons in Glow green and glow blue alewife, chicken wing and diehard patterns are working well. Fish 30 to 60 FOW and look for bait.

Oneida Lake fishing is good right now. You can find pickerel, bass, catfish and perch with a spinner and a worm being the bait to use.

Walleye fishing is steady with good cathces coming from the eastern end in 20 to 30 FOW.

If you want to get in on some great trout & salmon fishing, here is what I have open in July

July 13, 14, 19, 20, 22, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27

Target Species:

salmon & trout
