Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday October 30, 2013.
To hunt or to fish, that is the question that many of you are faced with this time of year.
The strange rollercoaster weather patterns of this year have, I believe, strung out the tributary fishing season.
To date we have not seen the large runs of Chinooks of past seasons but rather a more drawn out run.
The cooler weather of the past several days have cooled the tributaries within Orleans County down quite a bit which has increased the amount of Brown trout and Steelhead/Rainbow trout in our tributaries.
With rain in the forecast for the upcoming weekend, flows in all of our tributaries should remain at medium levels with slightly stained water conditions.
For those of you who will be fishing around the Waterport Dam area, be mindful of possible changes in water flow due to the cleaning of the trash gates on the inlet side of the power plant.
This time of year egg sac patterns and actual egg sacs or single eggs seem to be the best choice for lure patterns, although other flies such as wooly buggers and carpet flies in a wide variety of colors just to name a few.
Fishing for species other than the cold water species has been greatly affected by the unsettled weather pattern.
Perch fishing on Oak Orchard River has been anywhere from almost nonexistent to good depending on who you talk to and the same holds for fishing for the other warm water species on Lake Alice and the other bodies of water within Orleans County.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day, Right here in Orleans County.
