Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday, January 22, 2014.
Starting February 1, 2014 there will some significant changes in the New York State Fishing Licenses.
To start with all season fishing licenses, both resident and non-resident, will be valid for 1 year from the date of purchase.
Prices for non-resident license will be $50.00 for a season, $31.00 for a 7 day and $10.00 for a 1 day.
Resident licenses will be $25.00 for a season, $13.00 for a 7 day and $5.00 for a 1 day.
These fees reflect a reduction in all but a resident 1 day license.
With the cost of what seems to be everything else rising, it's refreshing to have some costs coming down.
Speaking of down, that is where the temperature is heading for the next week.
It looks like another week with the temperature not being able to rise above the freezing mark.
This should be good news for those who enjoy ice fishing with Lake Alice and the slower moving portions of the Oak freezing over and possibly providing some good conditions.
Some are already enjoying hard water fishing on Otter Creek and also around the Kenyonville Bridge area.
According to some reports decent catches of Bluegills are being taken using Wax Worms.
It shouldn't be long before ice around the bridges area on Oak Orchard River should be able to support fishermen again.
There is still open water from the dam down past the Archer's Club area but shore ice is forming so please be careful how and where you walk.
Some fresh Steelhead/Rainbow trout are being taken and a occasional Brown trout is in the mix.
All methods, float, fly casting and spin cast are being used with some success.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USDA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
