Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report
Today is Wednesday November 19, 2014.
Today is the last day for travel on the Erie Canal which will close for the season at 5 PM.
The canal de-watering process should begin within the next week.
To this point we have been spared the Lake Erie snow machine and have cold temperatures with no snow on the ground.
Areas south and west of here are experiencing blizzard conditions with some reporting up to 5 feet of snow.
Water flows on our tributaries are low to medium but that should change over the next week with water from the canal and the possible melt off of the snow pack south of us.
On Oak Orchard decent numbers of both Brown and Rainbow/Steelhead trout are being enjoyed.
Egg sacks, egg sucking leaches, stone flies and woolie buggers are some of the lures mentioned.
Johnson, Marsh and Sandy creeks all have fish but with the lower water flows, they are harder to work than the Oak.
This is the time of the year that the colder temperatures start to bring ice along the shorelines, making for slippery conditions.
Please be mindful of the conditions around you as they change throughout the day.
Perch and Pike fishing on the Oak has been good to very good for the last week with fish coming from 12 to 15 feet of water mainly on jigs tipped with some type of bait.
On Lake Alice Bass fishing is holding its own but both Bluegill and Crappie fishing is down.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
