Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday March 11, 2015.
With temperatures finally on the top side of the freezing mark, the spring thaw has started.
Thankfully the nighttime temperatures are still dropping to close to the freezing mark which means the snow melt will be slower and more manageable.
Although most of the Tributaries within Orleans County are still ice covered, open waters should start appearing very soon.
Some fresh steelhead are being taken on Oak Orchard River and more should start moving around over the next few days.
On the Oak both at the bridges area and down by the marinas some are still ice fishing with the usual perch, northern pike and once in a while a steelhead are being taken.
This is the time of year that ice fishermen need to be very mindful of the thickness of the ice they are on.
As the snow melt continues faster moving water under the ice will be eroding that ice from the bottom so keep checking the ice thickness of both the ice you are on and the ice between you and the shoreline.
Even though there are still some very large snow piles around, the signs of life are appearing in and around the marinas and should be increasing at a steady rate though out this month.
For those of you who are in the early planning stages of that Lake Ontario charter fishing trip, it's never too early to finalize those plans.
One way to accomplish this would be to use one on the package trips offered at www.FishingPackages.net.
There are also some great early spring tributary deals to be had on this site.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the World Fishing Networks Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
