Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday March 25, 2015.
This is the time of year when the song "There'll be a Change in the Weather" really holds true.
Over the next week we will have rain, snow, freezing temperatures and seasonal highs.
It's also the time of year when the saying "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes" also comes into play.
Right now most of the tributaries within Orleans County are either completely open or at least partially open.
With water flows on the tributaries mostly high and good stained water and fishing pressure very low, this is a great time for some very good steelhead fishing.
Steelhead are dispersed throughout the tributaries are they move toward the gravel spawning beds.
The full gambit of baits, both live and artificial, are in play with the stained water colors taking precedence in the artificial baits.
The lower reaches of the Oak are still slightly frozen but that should clear within the next few days.
Lake Alice and Glenwood Lakes still have ice on them but not to the point where ice fishing is safe.
It won't be long before the sucker and bullhead season will come to life on our tributaries as well as some walleye at the mouths of those tributaries.
A week from this coming Saturday, April 4th at 9:30 AM, we will be assembling the pens again for the Pen Rearing Project.
This project helps insure the continued fantastic fishing that we have for both Chinook salmon and Steelhead trout.
As always an extra pair of hands is always welcome.
With the opening day of the LOC Spring Derby just over a month away, the time is here to take care of all of those last minute preparations, including getting your derby entry in.
Also don't forget to check out those great package deals at FishingPackages.net.
For the next 2 to 3 weeks the lift bridge over the Erie Canal in Albion, Route 98, will be closed for repairs.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario the World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
