Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday April 29, 2016.
With temperatures in the 60's and only a slight chance of rain over the next week, fishing conditions should greatly improve.
Tributary fishing within Orleans County is waning but there are still that last group of steelhead that are available for just a short while yet.
The warm water species are starting to let themselves be known in our tributaries offering yet another great fishery for all to enjoy.
With the Erie Canal starting to be refilled, it won't be long before that body of water will offer some great fishing opportunities.
Speaking of the Erie Canal, the route 98 bridge across the Erie Canal has had its repair work completed and is back open again.
Also the last portion of the Lake Ontario State Parkway will re-open on May 1st for the summer season.
May 1st is also the opening day of the LOC Spring Derby.
On Lake Alice catches of Bluegill and Crappie are being reported along with those pesky Bass that somehow know that this time of year is catch and release only.
Lake Ontario continues to warm up providing some of the best spring fishing around.
It's the time of year that most of the cold water species are available to those casting from shore or on piers, in smaller boats and even the larger boats as they work that near shore water.
Chinook, Coho and even an occasional Atlantic salmon along with lake, brown and steelhead trout are all mixed into the daily catches.
Reports make the surface temperatures on shore water temperature in the high 40 degree mark and then in the high 60's by the 100 foot mark.
Please don't forget to sign up to help feed the pen reared fish over the next few weeks.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
