Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday May 6, 2015.
Whatever happened to spring?
It just seems like we have gone right from winter to summer and completely bypassed spring.
Temperatures for the rest of this week with hi's in the 80's most closely resemble summer.
Lake Ontario near shore water temperatures off Orleans County are finally in the 40's and get warmer as you head west.
Right now catches consist mainly of Lake trout and Chinook salmon.
The LOC Spring Derby is in full swing with some great catches being recorded.
This great derby runs thru this Sunday, May 10th, so there is still time to get in on the action.
With the warmer weather the tributaries and small lakes along with the Erie Canal are now becoming more active with the warm water species.
On Lake Alice Crappie, Bluegill and Perch still make up the majority of the catches along with the catch and release bass.
It's not too early to start planning for the 2nd annual Oak Orchard Open Tournament which will be held on June 13th and 14th.
Over the past year many have offer very positive comments on the new structure that is offered by this tournament.
Reducing limit catches from 12 to 10 and then having to have only 5 salmon and 5 trout makes this one of the most challenging tournaments around.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day, Right here in Orleans County.
