Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday June 17, 2015.
First congratulations to the top five finishers in the 2nd annual Oak Orchard Open Tournament.
For the 2nd year in a row the top finisher was Yankee Troller this year followed by Tracker, Reel Excitement, Vision Quest and Free Spirit.
The summer LOC Derby is well underway and it's interesting to note that there are no entries in the salmon division yet.
It's also interesting that the top 5 lake trout were all caught out of Point Breeze during the Oak Orchard Open Tournament as well as the 1st place steelhead.
Now that the west end tournaments are pretty well wrapped up some good fishing information should be somewhat easier to obtain.
Out of the "Oak", reports have a good mixed bag of fish being taken in the top 50 feet of water in the 150 to 200 feet of water range.
Most reports are of spoons taking most of the fish to this point.
Riggers, planner boards, dipsy divers, lead lines and copper rigs are all taking fish.
On the tributaries, small lakes and the Erie Canal within Orleans County, fishing for the warm water species is on the upswing.
Lake Alice is still producing a fair number of both Bluegill and Crappie along with an occasional Northern pike.
All of the waters are producing a good number of bass but remember that bass season finally opens this Saturday so it's still catch and release for a few more days.
On June 27 the annual Glenwood Lake Crap Derby will take place.
This derby is great fun for young and old alike and benefits several different food banks in our area.
As summer gets into full swing, it's a great time to take the time to take a kid fishing and introduce them to the great outdoors.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
