Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday August 12, 2015.
The fickle winds keep the waters of Lake Ontario in a constantly changing scenario.
Just when the lake starts to really set up, Mother Nature throws some northeast wind at us and what was, is no more.
I talked to one person who did very well on Brown trout in 60 feet of water one day and when he went back the next day, cold water had moved in and the fish were gone.
With winds out of the northwest to southwest for the rest of this week, fishing should be vastly improving.
Right now the area of the 30 to 31 lines seems to be holding fish or at least it was yesterday.
Reports have most fish being taken off the junk lines with very few spoon bites.
Don't forget that the Orleans Rotary Derby runs thru this Sunday so there's still time to catch that winning fish.
This Saturday is the 3rd leg of the King of the Oak Derby with weigh-in taking place at Ernst's Lake Breeze Marina between 2 and 3 PM.
Upcoming events include the Fish Odyssey which runs from August 22nd to the 30th and the Fall LOC Derby which runs from August 21st to September 7th this year.
On Lake Alice Bluegill fishing is picking up around the Waterport Bridge along with some Crappie.
Of course Bass are still the prevalent catch on all of the inland waters of Orleans County.
This is the time of the year that tributary fishermen start to check their gear and make those purchases that they have been considering since spring.
