New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Capt. Troy Creasy
August 20, 2007
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Once again the weather and winds direction are playing key factors in the success of each fishing trip. The wind howled out of the every direction this week and drove the temp up and down, making it that much more challenging to find active fish.

The good news is that they are here!

Although the conditions are less than perfect the King Salmon fishing continues to good from Henderson Harbor west to Fair Haven. Most of the kings are weighing around 18 pounds with a few in the uppr 20’s . E-Chip & Spin Doctor attractors with the hammer Atomik fly have been taking a lot of fish. A variety of spoons have also been working well including the NK Diehard.

Brown trout continue to be active in the warmer water with most of the action being in the early morning, with Raider and Michigan Stinger catching most of the fish.

The walleye action has been fair on Oneida Lake. Troll the deeper water pulling lead core in five or six colors. Jr. thundersticks and rapalas are working well. Fish anywhere from Buoy 121 to Buoy 109 but fish the north side of the buoys. Bass are active along the rock piles using crayfish.

According to Larry Muroski of Larry's Oswego Salmon Shop: Conditions have remained about the same in the river The water level remains low and the river is producing catfish on cutbait and bass are taking minnows and worms. Walleyes are hitting nightcrawlers in the harbor area and perch are active behind Breitbeck Park using worms and minnows. Anglers are finding bass near the breakwall and the Lighthouse, at flatrock, Ford Shoals and Smith Beach.

Here is what I have left for the lake.

August 21, 27 September 2, 5, 10 all PM Trips, no mornings.
