New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Capt. Troy Creasy
January 27, 2003
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

My God is it Cold!!!

The coldest air we have seen in years is still hanging in there this week. The river is nothing but slush. Today the town pool was froze completely over. There is plenty of snow on the hill and this is good news for snowmobilers and for the spring, as we need that water to raise lake levels and prolong the May steelhead season. It looks like the end of the week may bring some fishable temps, but there will be a lot of shelf ice to contend with.

The ice fishing however is real good as hardy anglers have been pounding big perch on Sodus Bay, Blind Sodus Bay and in Fair Haven. Sndy Pond Fisherman are doing well on northerns and crappie as well as some perch. I don't have a current report on the Henderson area, but I am sure things are going well there too.

If you don't ice fish or snowmobile, this is a good time to catch up on things around the house and prepare your tackle for the next time we get a warming trend.

I have recently mailed out my Winter 2002 Newsletter. If you did not receive a copy and would like one, just e-mail me with your street address and I will drop one in the mail. Just to bring you up to date. High Adventure Sportfishing is currently taking reservations for Spring, Summer and Fall, Lake and River charters.
