New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Capt. Troy Creasy
February 11, 2003
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

The past weeekend provided us with wonderful fishing and almost tolerable temperatures. Now today it is -12 and the river looks like a snow cone. YUK!

Saturday we opted to avoid the zoo in altmar and floated Pineville to Rt2A. We found fish in only a few spots and managed to land a 16 pound chrome hen, that Craig and leslie proudly released. The wind beat us up early, but by noon the sun was out and conditions improved. There was some other guides working the lower end of the river off the bank and they found good numbers of fresh fish beween town and Rt2A. I know of at least 15 being landed in that stretch on Saturday alone.

We fished the Oswego River on Sunday and had a spectacular day. we went 10 for 14, landing 7 browns and 3 steelhead, with 2 pushing 12 pounds.

As good as the fishing was this weekend, the deep freeze hitting us now will shut it down for awhile. Egg sacs and small jigs under floats continue to take most of the fish. Use light 4lb. test flourocarbon leaders and small #12 hooks for better success.

Ice fishing continues to be real good, as hardy anglers have been pounding big perch in Chaumont Bay and on Sodus Bay and Blind Sodus Bay. Sandy Pond Fisherman are doing well on northerns and crappie as well as some perch.

High Adventure Sportfishing is currently taking reservations for Spring, Summer and Fall, Lake and River charters.
