New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Capt. Troy Creasy

Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

July Kings and Browns

Here it is July 6 and we are finally seeing some real summer heat. People are complaining about the humidity and high temps. Remember the 9 months of winter we just had?? You won't hear me complaining about it. There has been a great breeze out on the lake and it has been a real pleasure fishing over the last week.

As usual we are catching plenty of brown trout, including a dandy 17.2 pound hog caught by Otto Jrevis! (I will have pictures of that in a day or two.) Plus right on schedule the first school of kings have shown up right off of the Oswego Harbor River mouth. We are not seeing a lot of matures yet, but nice fish in the 8 to 18 pound range. I am still running light equipment, so what a ball it is fighting a salmon on light trout rods and eight pound test.

The currents have been ferocious and at times I feel like a rookie with all the tangles, but the thermocline is tight and you have to fish them where they live. Most fish are coming 55 to 80 down over 80 to 150 feet of water. My best spoons have been Stingers, R&R's and Raiders in Black and Silver and NK's in the Black/green glow color patterns are also taking some nice fish.

The Oswego Pro-Am is this week and the cash pay out looks real good. We have tons of sponsors and it is not to late to enter and compete for large cash dollars and prizes, while having a lot of fun.

I want to thank G-Fly for sponsoring our High Adventure Team this year. The support is really appreciated and we will be running G-Flies behind our dodgers and flashers all season. I will keep you posted on the results.

I know I keep saying it, but the brown trout fishing continues to be some of the best we have ever seen. Despite what the skeptics and other reports say, since May 1 we have boated over 600 brown trout which averages out to about 13.3 per trip. Yep, The Lake is Dead!

I have plenty of days open in July. Looks like another fantastic year for Lake Ontario fishing. I am in awe that more people are not cashing in on this great fishing. July Special. Book 2 and days take $100.00 off total price.

FOR SALE New Walker Strike Vision Camera and New Fish Hawk 840 I also have extra probes.

Go Get Um!

Troy
