New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Capt. Troy Creasy
October 12, 2003
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Columbus Day Weekend

I always try to avoid working this weekend but I guess the need for $ and some good clients got the best of me.

Brian Mulkeen and his youngest son Eric, (Cover boy for our Summer 2003 issue) spent two days with me.

We wanted to avoid the salmon river ropers rendezvous, so we headed to the secret spot. See Picture.

We saw very few people and plenty of fish, but with 4 consecutive days of bright sun and blue skies they were somewhat stubborn.

Saturday we boated 3 and fought another dozen or so. Not a bad day at all. That forced us to go back on Sunday and we only landed one fish all day. The secret spot doesn't do you much good if you can't put them in the boat. I am real concerned that things are winding down way to soon. We need another good push of fish and I don't see any sign of it. Only time will tell. Keep your fingrers crossed.

I am back on the river fly fishing the next few days, so I will let you know what is left after the long holiday weekend wraps up on Monday.

They have all their eggs at the hatchery. 3.2 million.

I am swamped with phone calls and e-mails this time of year. Please forgive me if I don't get back to everyone. There just isn't enough time in the day. I will tell you that I do not have any open days until December 10, but I have some real good guides that still have a few days open this Fall. Shelley is stellar at working the books and she will be more than happy to set you up with a quality guide.

Stay Tuned, Troy
