Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Oswego Fishing Report

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After a brutal weekend of wind rough water cold temps and lack of bites, it was refreshing to run across a six inch chop on the way to the hot spot.
We set down off of the buoys and the first pass produced three nice browns. We continued to pick at the trout along with bass and sheepshead until about 8:30 and then they shut right off. Not a banner day, but a nice solid catch, especially after a dissapointing weekend. Hopefully it just get's better. Heard some reports of a few kings in 160 to 300 off of Oswego. We'll keep our fingers crossed.
David with a Dandy trout!
Six nice trout the guys kept for the smoker.
The afternoon found us particpating in our annual DARE program with Central Square middle school kids. We had over 30 children on the dock for what proved to be a fish catching afternoon in the Oswego Harbor. All the kids landed numerous bass and sheepshead and we even managed the only trout of the afternoon.
There was close to 200 fish landed on six boats in under four hours. The smallmouth took it on the chin for sure!!
It is great to see kids being involved in fishing. Thanks to Sheriff Todd and Deputy George Korthas. Deputy Korthas has been teaching D.A.R.E since 1999 when he volunteered to take over the responsibility after the death of the previous D.A.R.E Officer, Deputy Shawn Thompson. In one school year, Deputy Korthas has developed the program to be one of the most outstanding programs in Central New York. Deputy Korthas works closely with the School District and Parent Teacher Organization which produces two D.A.R.E graduations which between 400-500 people attend. Additionally, with the great assistance of Deputy Korthas' wife, numerous area businesses contribute financially and with merchandise to provide graduation presents to every D.A.R.E graduate ranging from paintball park outings and pizzas to a D.A.R.E picnic for the entire graduating class. Great Job!!
