New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Capt. Troy Creasy
March 21, 2007
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake Ontario Salmon River Fishing Report

This crazy weather is keeping area ice fisherman scratching their heads.

The ice fishing on Sandy Pond continues to be good with about 8-10 inches of ice but a lot of slush. There has been a good pike bite with large shiners but the perch fishing has been slow.

Pike season is now closed!!

The ice at Wright's Landing is no longer safe to fish on. At this time ice fishing is not recommended. The water level of the river has been running a little over 18,000cfs. Steelhead and brown trout are taking wax worms, minnows, egg sacs and jigs behind the motels and at Lock 7.

The upper section of the salmon river in Altmar continues to get the most pressure but now that most of the shelf ice is gone more anglers are trying the mid to lower sections of the river. Egg sacs and flies in blue and white are still working well.

Remember to stay safe on the ice, be respectful of others and put a few back for another day.

This is Captain Troy Creasy Good Day
