Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

The New Year is here and old man winter is out in full force.
Is it April yet??
Strong winds and below zero wind chills are making things just a little tough. We catch a few every trip out but nothing exciting.
Winter fishing…. Chip ice out of your guides, make a few casts, chip more ice and you are rewarded with an occasional hook up.
Beads, egg pattern flies, stoneflies and blue egg sacs are taking the majority of the fish.
The upper river is where the action is as we have heavy slush from Pineville down just about everyday.
To help with the slush, try Pam cooking spray, Vaseline or Stanley's ice off which is basically the same formula as chapstick.
We have plenty of safe ice just about everywhere. Sandy Pond anglers reported very slow fishing on Friday, but it had been good up to that day.
Stay safe & warm.
