Salmon River, Oswego River Fishing Report

Capt. Troy Creasy
November 1, 2009
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

October is in the books and it was a wonderfaul month, filled with tight lines, big fish and many smiling happy guests.

November is here and so are the trout. Don't miss this month as it is hands down some of the best fishing of the year.

A variety of techniques for catching steelhead has been working. Some of the fly fishermen and women are swinging large flies while others are using egg patterns and stoneflies. The old stand by of bottom bouncing is always effective and of course float fishing with trout beads in glow-roe and good ole gooey egg sacs are taking most our fish. Whether bottom bouncing or float fishng, a 10 pound main line and 8 pound leader will work just fine. Fish are scattered and are biting really good when they are not being spooked.

On the Oswego river The water level is about 9,000cfs. This river is loaded witrh rainbows, steelhead and plenty of brown trout. Look for trout and some salmon from the Kiddie Pool up to the powerhouse and also along the east side below thew dam. Egg sacs, estaz flies, beads, skein, nightcrawlers and meal worms are working well.
We still need rain to get fish in the smaller streams. It seems like all the heavy precipitation just goes south or east of us.
