Fall Fishing is in Full Swing

Capt. Richard Bennett

Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hi Folks,
Wow, what a week we have had. Just about everything is biting and fall fishing is just beginning! We have caught 18 specs and a nice flounder on one trip; 30 huge spanish on another; and a 7.5 # flounder on yet another trip. Be sure to check out the pics at my photo gallery http://www.rodmancharters.com/fishingphotos/main.php
Now here's my report:

Inshore: It's safe to say that everything is biting. Reds, flounder, trout: all three are biting artificials as well as live bait. We have found a lot of fish in the ICW, the inlets and the river. My favorite plastic thus far this year is the Bass Assassin Swim Bait, color "Space Guppy". You can get them at Island Tackle on Carolina Beach. We have caught all three fish mentioned above on this one plastic and a 1/4 oz. lead head in white or chartreuse.

Near Shore: Oh my gosh, what a spanish bite. Our last spanish trip saw us throwing back little fish in the 15 inch range and keeping the big ones from 18 to 24 inches. Awesome. We cast to some and trolled clarkspoons on planers and bird rigs for others. We also caught one bonito and you can expect more bonito action soon.

Offshore: Kings have been biting well in the 7 mile range. Look for them to come closer to the beach real soon.

Gulfstream: Wahoo!!! I am getting reports of a really good wahoo bite near the Same Ole.

The best fishing of the year is cranking up so now is the time to get on the water. My fishing school, February 28, 2009, is already drawing attention. Full information will be up on the sight soon.

Until next time.......
