Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hi Folks,
Fishing has been nothing short of great the last two weeks. It appears we have a little weather moving in tomorrow from the trough off Florida, but should be only a temporary thing with maybe some rain. We have been enjoying outstanding weather for many days now and a little rain will be good. Now here's my report:
Inshore: Water temps are running 83-85 and we are catching some nice reds and nice flounder. Finger mullet have shown up and the menhaden schools continue to amaze me. In other words, there is plenty of bait! You can find fish in the creeks, the waterway and the inlets. The river is also producing good catches of flounder, trout and drum.
Near Shore: Water temps around 80-81 and the spanish have been awesome. We caught nearly 30 yesterday morning trolling clarkspoons and bird rigs. Kings have been plentiful as well near the beach, feeding on the huge bait balls and large pods of menhaden.
Offshore: Kings and mahi are biting in the 10-25 mile ranges, with some sails from 15 to 20 miles out. Live menhaden have been the best bait.
Gulfstream: No reports.
Up Coming: It's hard to believe we are past the halfway point of the year and fall will be here soon. With the good fishing we are enjoying during the heat of the summer, I can only wait for what may be a banner fall season.
