Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
Week Ending September 24, 2003
Hi Folks,
Well, after dealing with the effects of Fabian and Henri, and then the brush from Isabel, we have finally been able to get back to fishing and it's time to get a report out. But first, let's all keep the folks on the outer banks and north that got hit hard by Isabel in our thoughts; hoping and supporting them in their recovery. We were very lucky in the southeast of NC. Now, here's my report:
For the week ending September 24, 2003:
Inshore: The waters are clear and the mullet are streaming through the waterways and the inlets....and the fish are biting. We are catching red drum and flounder in the inlets and along the waterway. Fish are biting on the falling and up to half way of the rising tides. Best baits are menhaden and finger mullet, both of which are plentiful right now. It's a good time to spend some time and catch some finger mullet for freezing...and you will have bait later in the season when the live bait is gone.
Nearshore: Right now we are having a mix. Spanish mackerel are biting and some are throw backs and some are 3-5 pounds. Bluefish are the same way. Gray trout are biting on live bait and jigs. A few small pods of false albacore have shown up.
Offshore: No reports yet. It's only been 6 days since Isabel, but expect things to get going soon.
Gulfstream: No reports.

Fall is in the air and with it comes the best of the years' fishing. From flounder to reds and trout, to big spanish and kings, the best is just around the corner. So make plans to get on the water.
Good Fishing!
