Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Period ending November 30, 2003
Report for the period ending November 30, 2003:
Inshore: The word here is trout. We are getting some nice catches of specks, but with all trout fishing you have to pay the price...patience. You may sit in a good spot for an hour and no bites then, bang, the bite is on...one fish after another. We are also catching black drum at the jetty and the docks along the waterway and the creeks. A few hardy flounder are still around, but mostly small.
Nearshore: False albacore, bluefish and gray trout make up the nearshore catch. Most fish are being caught on spoons; crippled herring, Maria, stingsilver, megabait and so on. Look for the birds!
Offshore: King mackerel are being caught in the 20+ mile areas. They were in close to the beach...6+ miles but this recent cold snap is sure to drive them out further.
Gulfstream: No report.
I hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving, and we are all looking forward to the December holiday season. There are lots of good fishing days left this year. Inshore you can expect catches of trout, drum and tautog among others.
