Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Week Ending April 18, 2004
Hello everyone,
Fishing has been good and getting better nearly every day. The water slow to warm has finally hit and passed that magical 60 degree mark and the fish are responding. The bonito action is not as hot as it "should" be, but that is subject to change the next day.
Here's my report:
For the week ending April 18, 2004:
Inshore: A few small flounder and some pretty good red drum action going on near the docks in the waterway and creeks and near the rocks at Masonboro Inlet. Fresh shrimp or cut bait (bluefish are plentiful just off the beach) fished on carolina rigs are best.
Nearshore: Bonito action is picking up and should hit full stride any day. We are catching some bonito and the bluefish are nice size.
Offshore: King mackerel are being caught in the 25-35 mile range and one "lost" king was caught at the 10 mile rock this week.
Gulfstream: Good fishing for tuna, wahoo and mahi in the stream and the weather has been beautiful.
Look for the spanish to show up soon as the water warms just a bit more. Also, the inshore flounder should get going within the next couple of weeks. We caught a 15" flounder this past week.

Good Fishing,
