Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Period Ending July 10, 2004
Hi Folks,
Sorry I haven't put a report out in almost two weeks. The weather, though hot has been awesome and we have been fishing everyday. The water is alive with fish. Spanish mackerel are jumping, kings and mahi are biting well, sailfish are playing around and inshore red drum are cooperating nicely...most of the time.
Now here's my report: For the period ending July 10, 2004:
Inshore: The best bet inshore right now is red drum. They are hitting live menhaden and finger mullet, or chunks of fresh cut bait. on one day we caught 10 of these bruisers. Flounder too are being caught in the waterway and inlets and possibly most prominently on the nearshore artificial reefs. We even got a surprise catch of a 3+ pound speckled trout this week in 85 degree water!
Nearshore. The waters are alive with spanish and small kings (throw backs under 24"). Fish are jumping. Occasionally, a big king is being caught right along the beach.
Offshore: Plenty of king and mahi action from 10 to 30 miles out. Live menhaden for slow trollers and ballyhoo for fast trollers are the preferred baits. 3 wahoo were caught at the 23 mile rock this week!
Gulfstream: Mahi and more mahi are the main ticket in the stream. A few billfish are around as well.
I know it's hot, so when you go out on the water, take plenty of water to keep hydrated. A wet wash cloth kept in your cooler can feel like A/C during the heat of the day.
Don't miss this weeks CO-PICS of the week. www.rodmancharters.com
