Fishing Report September 28, 2004:
Hi Folks,
This past week has been challenging with the weather, but exciting with the fishing action. The Rod-Man and his two man fishing team won the Cape Fear Red Trout Tournament, Most Redfish Caught Division. Details of the tournament and pictures can be found by going to the Cape Fear Red Trout Tournament page on Home page.
Inshore: Yes redfish are biting, mostly live finger mullet or menhaden on the falling tide. Flounder are biting as well near the inlets and in the waterway. Live bait is best, fished on a carolina rig. Sheepshead and black drum are biting too with the best baits being fresh shrimp and small crabs.
Nearshore: Gray trout are biting at the inshore artificial reefs and natural live bottoms. Live bait works well and jigging spoons such as the Crippled Herring work well too. Don't be surprised if you pick up a nice flounder too.
Offshore: No reports.
Gulfstream: Action is strong on yellowfin tuna, wahoo and dolphin.
We are entering that time of the year when everything is biting. Inshore, nearshore and on out, from flounder to tuna, you can find just about anything you want. It is a great time of the year to fish...from now through December.
Just a reminder, registration for the Rod-Man Fishing School is going well, so if you are interested, contact me as soon as possible.
