Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

December 10,2004

December 10, 2004

Hi Folks,

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season. This will be my last report for the year (I think). I look forward to seeing a lot of you at the boat shows and my fishing school during the winter.

Before my report, I have some important news. In the near future I will be taking delivery on a new Boston Whaler Dauntless 220, powered by a Mercury Verado 225 four stroke engine. My new relationship with Boston Whaler, Mercury Marine and Marine Max will provide you with one of the best platforms on the water for fishing, riding and just plain boating. I just cannot say enough about the new rig, but come fish with me next year and you will see for yourself. A picture of the boat is featured. While this is not my actual boat (it is being built), it is accurate as to what I will be receiving.

Of course with the purchase of a new boat comes the sale of a used boat. Anyone interested in a used but very nice Parker 23 SE with lots of warranty left should contact me.

Now here's my report:

Inshore: Speckled trout runs have been good. Best fishing has been around the inlets and creek docks. Best bait has been live shrimp with your favorite curly tail next.

Nearshore: Red drum are patrolling the beaches. Often you can sight cast to them on calm days. Cut bait, bucktails, and other artificials will get you a strike. At the nearshore artificial reefs, bluefish, black sea bass and some gray trout will provide action.

Offshore: The kings are still biting from about 20 to 35 miles out. Good bites of grouper can be found in the 10-15 mile range.

Gulfstream: Sorry, no report.

It's been a wonderful year and I want to thank each and every one of you. The fish are still biting, but I am gearing up for the boat shows, my fishing school, and my new boat. The fishing school is over 2/3 full, so if you want to join us, please register soon. Seating is limited.

Happy Holidays Everyone!!!

Capt. Rick Bennett
