Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
Report May 19, 2005
Report May 19, 2005
Hi Folks,
Wow! Fishing IS exciting again. Inshore waters have warmed and some live bait is around which means some flounder and drum action is there too. Nearshore large spanish and small kings are plentiful. One trip this week we caught 10 kings 2 big spanish and a bonito...all on spinning rods!
Inshore: Activity is picking up. Live menhaden are in the river. Flounder and drum are hanging in the inlets and the waterway and up some of the creeks. Some big bluefish have been in Masonboro Inlet.
Nearshore: Big spanish and small kings (4-6 pounds) are biting. You can catch the heavy way with planers and clarkspoons or lighten up and troll Yozuri Crystal Minnows. They are hitting the Deep Diver series as well as the traditional minnow. I use about 3 feet of 40# flourocarbon leader and troll between 3.5 and 4 knots.
Offshore: Bigger kings have moved into the 10 and 20 mile areas. Cigar minnows fished on GitZem jig heads on top and on downriggers are producing some 10-15 pound fish.
Gulfstream: The action in the stream is wahoo, tuna and mahi. Reports have been minimal so details are scarce.
Don't miss the pic of the week: http://www.rodmancharters.com
I gotta run...well go fishing that is!!!
