Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Report August 3, 2005
Hi Folks,
Fishing has been great and I have been doing a lot of it. Most everything is biting at one time or another and at one tide or another.
Big news: the date and agenda for next year's fishing school have been set; bigger means more room and comfortable seating; better means more information; and register soon means seating is still limited. I turned so many people away last year, I will be in a bigger place this year, but we are still limited. Details at http://www.rodmancharters.com
Hope to see you there.
Now here's my report:
Inshore: Water temps have cooled a bit and drum and flounder activity have picked up. We still are not getting the usual doormats this year, but we are catching some nice fish. Live menhaden or finger mullet are the best baits.
Nearshore: Spanish mackerel are cooperating nicely. We had one trip where we caught our limit of 45 fish and then released another 30...all on spinning tackle...what fun! Large barracuda are hanging around the AR's so if you get a fish on you want...get him in the boat. Or you can go and cast tube lures for the barracuda on spinning gear and have some real fun.
Offshore: Mahi have made their appearance and one boat had 12 recently in the 10-15 mile range along a weed line. King mackerel are biting from 3 miles to 30 miles with the bigger kings a bit further out and deeper and early in the morning. Live menhaden, cigar minnows and ballyhoo will do the trick.
Gulfstream: Wahoo, some tuna and mahi make up the action in the stream. Billfish can add to the mix.
Don't miss this week's pic of the week: http://www.rodmancharters.com
Lot's of great fishing dates open.
Let's Go Fishing!!!
