Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Rod-Man Charters Report October 27, 2005
Rod-Man Report October 27, 2005:
Hi Folks,
What an unusual week we have had. We have seen temps near 80 and lows in the mid 40's. We have caught king mackerel, some really nice flounder, plenty of red drum and even some trout. And fat bluefish have swarmed in the inlets. Now that is fall fishing!
Here's my report:
Inshore: Red drum have been biting well in the inlets and creeks. They are hitting live finger mullet or cut bait. Flounder are biting in the inlets and the small channels where docks are prevalent. Live bait, either finger mullet or mud minnows will do the trick. Specks are working the marsh banks, but look for them to move to the inlets as well with this cooler weather.
Nearshore: Two fish are headlining the nearshore fishing: bluefish and gray trout. Blues can be caught on anything and grays can be caught jigging with spoons or cut or live bait.
Offshore: Good king mackerel fishing is going on in the 15 to 25 mile range. Big grouper are being caught from 20 to 30 miles out.
Gulfstream: Wahoo and tuna are making the trip to the stream worth while. An occasional marlin will add to the mix.
Sponsors Corner: With speckled trout season here, be sure to load up on Berkley Gulp baits. I like the curly tail and swimming minnow in "smoke" and "pumkinseed". I know I have preached the Okuma VS series reels all summer, but I cannot help but mention how all my customers comment on how smooth they are and the drags are like silk. I use the VS 30 for trout, the VS 40 for flounder and the VS 45 for the bigger drum. You can check the out locally at Bug-Em Bait, 6006 Oleander Dr. or give them a call at 910-452-9955.
The second annual Rod-Man Fishing School is taking off. The date is March 4, 2006 and the limited seating is filling fast. You can find details at http://www.rodmancharters.com
Lots of good fishing left this year so....
