Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Rod-Man Report July 24, 2006

Rod-Man Report July 24, 2007:

Hi Folks,

Fishing in the heat has been pretty darn rewarding. We have had catches of several kings and a couple of mahi, plenty of red drum, and some nice spanish this week. We even saw a sailfish free jump...beautiful.

Inshore: Flounder fishing is good on the incoming tides and reds are biting well on the outgoing tides. Live bait and GULP SW are working best, fished on a carolina rig.

Near Shore: A few tarpon have been cruising around just off the beach and a few have been hooked. Shark fishing is hot for those of you who like the sport. Spanish mackerel are still providing good action on nearly a daily basis. Barracuda are hanging on the nearshore reefs and don't forget the large flounder are hanging their too.

Offshore: In the 15-25 areas, kings and mahi and an occasional sailfish have been providing plenty of action. Amberjack have been providing plenty of fun at the offshore artificial reefs and an occasional cobia can be found as well. You can jig up plenty of cigar minnows and sardines with sabiki rigs at the reefs. Fresh bait is best.

Gulfstream: There have been a few wahoo caught and some nice size yellowfin. The main bite however has been consistent mahi.

Hot weather doesn't mean the fish are not here. It means you need to plan your trip better with the right tides earlier in the morning or later in the evening. Night fishing, particularly for reds and flounder can be really exciting...and no sunscreen required!

Let's Go Fishing!!!
