Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Rod-Man Report August 8, 2006

Rod-Man Report August 8, 2006:

Hi Folks,

Hot weather and if you can stand it, hot fishing too. This past week, the spanish have been on fire...like the weather. Kings are on the beach mixed in with the spanish. Flounder are in the inlets and the nearshore reefs. Reds are in the waterway and the inlets...and more.

Inshore: Lots of nice flounder are being caught at the inlets. We tried the cut with no luck on flounder but we did catch a nice red. Reds are in the waterway and near the inlets. For the flounder, GULP saltwater is good and live bait too. Reds are hitting live and dead bait as long as it is fresh.

Nearshore: The spanish are chewing! Bird rigs have been great on spinning rods. Yesterday we caught 19 spanish and 1 7# king, using two spinning lines rigged with bird rigs. Flounder are biting on the nearshore reefs, hitting finger mullet or small poagies fished on a carolina rig. Barracuda can be caught on the reefs using a 'cuda tube lure.

Offshore: Kings and mahi are biting well between 15 and 25 miles on live bait, cigar minnows, and ballyhoo. A few cobia are hanging around the offshore reefs.

Gulfstream: In the deeper water, there is a good bite of wahoo being reported. Plenty of mahi action and some billfish add to the draw of the deep.

Rod-Man's annual Fishing School dates are set. February 10, 2007 in Raleigh and March 3, 2007 in Wilmington. That's right; two dates, two schools and two locations to better serve you. Lots of new and exciting topics will be covered, so make your plans to attend. Complete details coming in September.

Don't miss this week's pics of the week...some young boys had a real adventure with some light tackle shark fishing: http://www.rodmancharters.com

Fall fishing is just around the corner. If it is any better than this summer's fishing we are inn for a real treat. Make your plans early to get out there when they are biting.

Let's Go Fishing!!!
