That's A Wrap

Capt. Cory Godell
November 26, 2015
Bend - Freshwater Fishing Report

Another season has come and gone. We'd like to thank everyone who came out with us on the Deschutes, Sandy and Owyhee Rivers this season. For those of you that didn't make it out with us this season we hope to see you next season.

This was by far our best and busiest season ever at Deschutes River Anglers. We hardly had much time off. So we're sorry if you haven't heard from us much these past few months.

This season was not only busy for us on the Deschutes but we also started to focus more time during the summer on the John Day River chasing small mouth bass. As we all know, the Deschutes is a world class trout and steelhead fishery, but the John Day is one of the best small mouth bass fisheries around. If you haven't fished the John Day you should definitely give it a try. It won't disappoint.

Even though the Deschutes is done for the season, we are gearing up for the start of a new season on the Sandy River. December on the Sandy can be a great month to chase winter steelhead. But that's just us getting started. We will continue to guide on the Sandy well through the month of March. Then we will migrate over to the Owyhee River for some early season dry fly action for Brown Trout.

Starting in March the Owyhee gets a Skwalla Stone fly hatch. Big bugs in small water, what a kick. Lastly we'll head back over to the almighty Deschutes. Our season opens up the fourth Saturday in April, but things really kick off for us around the 10th of May. This is generally when the Salmon Flies start hatching on the Deschutes.

Then of course that brings us to the middle of August, and time to start swinging flies for summer steelhead again. Steelhead fishing is good right on through November.

We hope you have a great and safe Thanksgiving.

Thanks Again
