Blue Marlin &Dorado, What Could Be Better !!!

Capt. Bob Baker
November 27, 2008
Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

Even with the unsettled weather caused by a strong cold front and some heavy rain (mostly on the Atlantic side), we are having a great start to the prime marlin season here in the southern Pacific. Add to that the almost constant daily action on nice sized dorado, and you have the makings of some great action combined with some great grillin'.

Blue marlin of 250 and 350 lbs. were taken last week in the 15 mile area, all on trolled plastics, while the mahi were found closer to shore, sometimes only two to three miles from Mata Palo and Punta Banco.

These two were males, so the big girls(500-900) will be along very soon. Both were released , tired but free.

Had 4 sails raised on one trip last Monday, with three releases.
Thursday had 3 more up. Two stole the live sardines fed back to them on the bait n' switch and swam of happy, but we managed one to the boat for a photo and release.

Yellowfin tuna have moved farther offshore, but they're around. We had such good action close in, we didn't bother to go out after them.

Inshore, we've been targeting corvina, snapper, and even had a couple of nice snook at the river mouth in the 20 lb. class last week.

Roosterfish continue to bite well on dunked sardines and blue runners, all rigged with circle hooks.

Boca Chica Fishing Forecast:

Marlin bite will continue to improve as the water warms. Very good to Jan. then a bit slower to May ,but still plenty of fish.

Sails will continue to increase in numbers. They're spotty right now, but will be here in big numbers around the middle of December.

We can only hope the fantastic dorado fishing keeps up. Looking good on that as there are a lot of squid out there to keep them around feeding, and growing !

Hope to see all of you here this season.

Happy Thanksgiving and Godd Fishing, Wherever You Are !! Capn Bob
