Panama - Boca Chica

Capt. Bob Baker
April 27, 2006
Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

Costa Rica-Golfito to Punta Burica

Ft. Bragg, California guest SEAN HOGAN, noted income tax attorney in this beautiful northern pueblo, has been seeing billfish on every outing, but the rough weather , and his lack of experience in bouncy seas, has somewhat limited his ability to present the FLY to them. Sean assures me he is having a great time anyway !! Could this be the perfect fly fishing client???

On his first day out, teaming with "THE Blues Brothers", capt.'s Jose (Jake) and Ricardo(Elwood) Guerra, Sean had 5 sails in the teasers, all hot, and a blue marlin that crashed the teasers butwas confused when Sean's fly didn't get to her. seems it was embedded in Sean's SHIRT ! Oh, it was a trifle windy , too.

With the change of the moon yesterday, the boyz are having much improved weather, and yesterday Sean landed that marlin. After almost being spooled by the hard running beast, the crew handled the boat to the fish and got the release. A fine fish.

There are still plenty of billfish outside. We believe more MARLIN than SAILS are out there, or at least it seems that way.

A day inshore yielded a spanish mackeral, two jack crevalle, a follow to the boat by a huge snapper that had everybody holding their breath, and a bunch of roosters that just wouldn't make that last few inches to the hook. But a lot of fun.

We expect the weather to continue fine for the next few weeks.

Soon it will be spawning time for CORVINA, and we'll be concentrating on those fine eating, and fighting fish, along with our big SNOOK. They'll be coming into the river to spawn, and the angling gets hot on the incoming tides.

YELLOWFIN TUNA are still outside, when we can get on the schools of porpoise that signal us to their whereabouts.

There is a 10% discount for all packages of at least three days, and plenty to keep your pole bent. So come on down!!

GOOD FISHING, Capn Bob

Panama-Gulf of Chiriqui

Time to get ready for the yearly WAHOO run in the Chirqui area, and all over Panama for that matter.

Our fishing area holds so much structure that the WAHOO concentrate here as soon as the water temp. lowers to acceptable levels, which it is in the process of doing at this time.

Lots of BLACK MARLIN around Isla Ladrones and Isla Montuosa. Coiba and the HANNIBAL BANK will be hot for big, big YELLOWFIN TUNA, MARLIN, and some huge CUBERA SNAPPERS.

Inshore for roosters and many, many other species is hot all the time.

Be sure to contact me and get info on our new lodge, GONE FISHING PANAMA RESORT, located at the gateway to the world's finest angling .
