Panama - Boca Chica

Capt. Bob Baker
June 21, 2006
Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama Offshore

We fished the BEN LAZAR group this past week, overcame a lot of adversity , and the three anglers stuck it out and were rewarded with some nice fish.

ISLA LADRONES was the day 1 area of operation. The boys trolled up 4 very nice dorado's, then hovered over a deep pinnacle , jigging iron. This tactic resulted in two CUBERA SNAPPER , one 20 and the other 25 lbs.

Then slow trolled live bonitos for a black marlin, but no takers. Filled out the day with a number of small YELLOWFIN TUNAS.

All in all, a great day fishing. Some heavy rain showers were handled, and the guys said Ben's shivering and teeth chattering may have been one reason they teased in so many tuna.

Day two started out with a boating mishap before the boys were even on the boat. We sent another boat/captain combo, and ISLA SECAS was the destination.

Though slow at first, the guys finally found some tuna and a nice yellowtail snapper later in the day.

Day 3 sent them to ISLA MONTUOSAwith high hopes, and an added "Good Luck" charm. "gone Fishing Panama" resort owner Bruce Edwards decided to take up the guys invitation to fish along with them, and were rewarded with three beautiful WAHOO to 50 lbs. Capt. Bartolo told me that one lost fish would have gone close to 90-100 lbs., but the hook tore free in the soft-mouthed rocket.

Day long , non-stop action on YELLOWFIN TUNA gave the crew another great day offshore.

Ben and Co. took special care filleting ,packaging, and freezing their catch for the ride back to At'Lanna and Niew Joisey. Great group. They were REALLY impressed with the diligence of "Panama Sport Fishing" in making sure they had a great angling adventure, and they couldn't say enough good things about 'Gone Fishing Panama' staff, food, rooms, and pleasant atmosphere.

They promised me they'd be BACK REALLLL SOON to Boca Chica, and Ben also wanted to come to my place in Zancudo Bech, Costa Rica for a few days fishing.

We'll be READY !!! Thanks guys !!
