Panama - Boca Chica

Capt. Bob Baker
October 31, 2006
Boca Chica - Saltwater Fishing Report

Costa Rica--Golfito area to Punta Burica

If you haven't already done so, it is getting to be close to the "Prime Season" in this area and you should be finalizing plans for your winter fishing trip. Go to www.costaricafishing.com for all the info.

We've had a series of low pressure systems that hang around and dump rain on us, severely cutting into our "Research Trips".

Lots of juvenile baitfish growing up here in the Golfo Duce, which is one of only three fjiords in all the world. Bonitos, flying fish, and many other forage species use these fertile waters to hatch out and grow to 'eating size' for our sport fish !!

All this means we'll be having another fine season , starting around the second week of December, when the rains STOP until Easter.

We get out when we can, but have been concentrating on inshore/bottom fishing to keep our tables supplied with healthy fresh fish.

Corvina and snapper have been biting well, but fishing for snook has been such a pain we gave it up. Too much trash in the water from all the jungle debris coming down the rivers.

There are only so many seats on the limited amount of flights , and a lot of tourists ( not only fishermen) who pack the hotel rooms in San Jose, so BOOK EARLY so we can get everything lined up and in order for you.

We're mounting TWIN 115 h.p. Evinrude E-Tec outboards on our boats for this season, keeping up with our maintenence.

Give me a call if you like at 506.776.0007, or e-mail me at [email protected] with your questions.

Good Fishing!! Capt. Bob

Panama Isla Parida -Boca Chica-Isla Ladrones

Some of you may have had the chance to see the t.v. show, "Go Fisch" recently. I've had some phone calls from clients saying ," Hey, they're fishing in OUR spot !!!" Well, if you want to do at.v. show you gotta have FISH ! No better place than here.

Season is shaping up to be another fine one. I urge ALL clients to book as early as you can for the upcoming season. Give me enough lead time to get everything arranged and reserved. We like things to go S-M-O-O-T-H.

We've been staying around the islands lately. Shorter days due to rains. When my brother Bill and I have to make a supply run out to Parida Island for our Indian family who guard and maintain our property out there, we usually take a spinning rod for casting poppers, a couple of 30's for trolling rapala's or Braid Marauders, and try to hook up with the numerous snapper, roosterfish, and wahoo around all the rocks, points, drops, and reefs that make this place a fisherman's dream come true.

Had a double hit on two trolled rapala.s and was SURe we had a couple of WAHOO the other day . Turned out to be a wahoo of 35 lbs. and a HUGE jack crevalle that didn't want anyting to do with coming to the boat. Ate the wahoo and released the jack.

We'll be putting our clients in the new Pacific Bay Resort this season, so you'll have a great place to hang out after fishing. Beautiful area, and close to the action. Might even be able to use their kayak's for some evening casting around the rocks.

Corvina, yellowtail snapper (pargo amarillo), and cubera snapper are in very good numbers. No matter how many illegal nets they put out at night, the fish keep reproducing in these fertile waters in such numbers that they don't seem to be affected. But I'm sure they are. It's just such a huge area that the fish always seem to find hiding spots away from normal haunts if the pressure gets too great.

Looking forward to hearing from old clients and new, men, women, boys and girls. We LOVE to fish !!

Goof Fishing ! Wherever you are !! Capn Bob
