Fishing remains hot (literally) in Lowcountry

Capt. Rick Percy
July 26, 2012
Beaufort - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing in the Beaufort area continues to be hot. Almost as hot as the daily high temperatures. Most trips are being conducted in the early morning, as the winds are down and the temps at least moderate. Sea Trout are starting to show everywhere as our shrimp crop grows, along with our finger mullet populations. Most are still under the 14 inch minimum, but should be in the keeper range by later this fall. I'm looking for a banner trout year. Redfish are still biting well on shrimp, mullet or mud minnows, and a variety of artificials. The nearshore wrecks are producing well, with Weakfish, Spadefish, Blues, Ladyfish, and Jack Crevalle the main targets. The big Jacks are also being taken in Calibogue Sound right now.A friend reported a school of a thousand fish seen there last week, and he took a 48 inch Jack. What a fight that was. And Tarpon continue to be a main target for charter guides in our area.

Beaufort Fishing Forecast:

Should continue to to be good for all species.
