Scenic City Fishing in October

Capt. Richard Simms
October 13, 2008
Chattanooga - Freshwater Fishing Report

The catfish bite on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, Tenn. is staying pretty consistent. We are catching good numbers of 5-10 lb. fish, and 15-20 lb. fish show up with regularity.

The water is cooling off... we're in the low 70's now... which means the smallmouth bass bite should start picking up from now all the way through winter. We're catching LOTS of spotted bass now... small but feisty.

The crappie fishing is also picking up with several crappie anglers reporting limits of 11-13 inch crappie. Most are being taken on deep water structure and bluff lines using 1/32 oz. jigs such as Panfish Assassins.

Target Species:

Catfish, Bass, Crappie
