Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Canyon Lake, Texas
LARGEMOUTH and SMALLMOUTH are cohabitating. Both are
holding in 8'-12' over rock piles. A very slow presentation is necessary, therefore, plastics and jigs
are the primary lures of choice. An Ice Tea (Creme Lure Co.) Devil's Tongue on split shot or drop shot rigs are most productive. Other successful baits are:
1/4 oz. pumpkin or black/blue Terminator jigs or 1/8 pumpkin Curb's jigs and a 3" crawfish Creme Super Tube.
On warmer days expect the fish to move up onto chunk rock banklines in the afternoon.
STRIPERS and WHITE BASS are moving uplake in preparation for the first good spawning run in three years. Vertically jigging a Horizon Pirk Minnow or 1/8 oz. white Curb's bucktail jig will take some fish.
However, the main push of whites into the upper Guadalupe River is expected any day.

LAKE LBJ
This lake is currently producing fish in the 5-8 lb. category. 1/8 oz. black Curb's hair jigs, wateremlon
or Ice Tea Devil's Tongues on split shot rigs, 1/4 oz
Terminator black/blue jigs are all productive along rip rap. However, the bite is mostly very "mush" and
you must pay attention and set the hook immediately.
White bass are moving up the river arms on their way to spawn. Trolling very small crankbaits on leadline
and vertically jigging 1/4 oz. Horizon Pirk Minnows
are the most productive methods. Another two weeks and
the White Bass spawning run should be in full swing.
By Valentines Day the crappie will be in 2'-4' and preparing to spawn. 30-50 per day is not an unusal
day for either species.

LAKE BUCHANAN
Largemouth are holding along secondary points of main creeks from 8'-15' and over brushpiles in pockets and creeks. 1/4 or 3/8 oz. black/blue Terminator jigs, wateremlon or pumpkin Devil's Tongues or motor oil Creme 3" Super Tubes are producing. Stripers are at midlake along main channels in 18'-36 feet. Drifting live or cut bait and trolling bucktail jigs are taking
fish up to 24 inches. White bass are just outside of creek mouths in 15'-28'. Vertically jigging Horizon Pirk Minnows and white Curb's bucktails will work. The primary white bass run is still about 3 or 4 weeks off.
