Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE.

LARGEMOUTH are just now showing some inclination to move up out of the 12'-15' of water where they have been and roaming up over 8' breaklines on warm sunny days only to return to the brush and rock piles when a fron blow in. We've been catching some good fish in the deeper water suing 1/4 oz. watermelon or pumpkin Terminator or Curb's jigs, craw worms and hard jerkbaits along bluff ledges inside of secondary creek points. SMALLMOUTH are spawning right now in 4'-8' over flats along channel breaklines. Good lure choices are 1/8 oz. white or chartreuse Terminator spinnerbaits, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, chartreuse 3" Creme Super Tubes and Ice Tea Devil's Tongues. STRIPERS & WHITE BASS are very good in the upper lake and in the Guadalupe River casting #1 & #3 Terminator In-Line spinners or trolling Spin Traps or shad-type crakbaits or verticlally jigging Pirk Minnows in deeper water. Black bass are just now beginning to cooperate in reasonably shallow water on warm sunny days. The best fishing will be within another week or so when the surface temps. reach 55 degrees. right now our lure choics are watermelon or pumpkin Terminator or Curb's jigs and craw trailers, chameleon Scoundrel worms on wacky rigs and 1/8 oz. white Terminator spinnerbaits. With warming water try 6" pumpkin Zilla lizards and 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads in rip rap and along ditches and channels leading to spawing areas. CRAPPIE are very good in 12' over brushpiles using chartreuse Creme Tiny Tubes and minnows. WHITE BASS and STRIPERS to 24" are good along main channel breaks on truns and over sand bars using Terminator In-Line spinners, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, Pirk Minnows and Tiny Traps. STRIPER FISHERMEN should wait no longer to get after these fish in the 18"-26" class that are schooled up at mid lake taking drifted live bait and trolled bucktail jigs and trailers in 18'-26' LARGEMOUTH are showing signs of improving as they move along ledges on secondary creek points. Use 1/4 oz. pumpkin Terminator jigs and craw trailers, watermelon Scremer worms or 3" amber or crawfish Creme Super Tubes. WHITE BASS are grouped up in 16'-28' of water at midlake and are taking vertically jigged Horizon Pirk Minnows, 2" chartreuse Lit'l Fishie Shad and Spin Traps.
