Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CAYON LAKE

LARGEMOUTH are very good in 3'-8' of water along ledges and flats in creeks & main lake points using 1/4 oz. crawfish Rat-L-Traps, white/char. Terminator spinnerbaits, pumpkin/char. Zilla lizards and 2" Lit' Fishie Shads. SMALLMOUTH are good over rock piles on falts in 4'-10' on 1/8 oz. char. Terminator spinnerbaits, Ice Tea Devil's Tongues and brown hair jigs. STRIPERS and WHITE BASS are moving upriver but the largest females are still at the mouth of the Guadalupe River and we're catching 20-50 per trip vertically jigging 1/4 oz. Horizon Pirk Minnows, char. 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads and casting or trolling #1 or #3 Terminator In-Line spinners and Tiny Traps. CHOKE CANYON RES.

This is the "hottest" lake in south Texas right now with largemouth to 12 lbs. being taken on pumpkin lizards, Rat-L-Traps and Terminator spinnerbaits. In the south end work rock bank lines and points. At Mason or Greyhound fish lizards or Terminator jigs along laydowns in 4'-8' of water and cast white/chartreuse Terminato spinnerbaits bank shallow. LAKE LBJ

Conditions are just now getting right for great bass fishing on LBJ. Blacks are moving toward spawning grounds along channels and ditches in stump fields. A white/char/blue Terminator spinnerbait, crawfish Rat-L-Trap or 2" Lit'l Fishie Shad are all producing. Work rocky points of pockets and creeks with a pumpkin Zilla lizard or Mag Wrom. CRAPPIE, too are just beginning their move to spawn. Look for them in 8' of water in creeks channels using minnows, white or chartreuse 1/32 oz. Curb's jigs or Creme Tiny Tubes.
