Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE LBJ

LARGEMOUTH are very good in 3'-5' of water in coves and pockets with laydowns and stumps in the lower end of the lake from Horseshoe Bay to Flying K and along rocky points used for ambushing forage. Fish are aggressively feeding for a spawn in April. All conditions are ideal for it. Use a 1/4 oz. blue Shad or Gold Shiner Terminator spinnerbaits, blue fleck MagWorms, 1/4 oz. 'Traps and Devil's Tongues. Our clients are catching limits of 12"-16" male and female crappie in 1'-3' of water using chartruse or white 1/32 oz. Tiny Tubes and Curb's crappie jigs. CHOKE CANYON

LARGEMOUTH to 12+ lbs. are very good bank shallow to 4' from Possum to Greyhound and Mason Point, using pumpkin or watermelon Zilla lizards, 3/8 oz. Gold Shiner Terminator spinnerbaits and 'Traps. Work all laydowns tthoroughly with a 1/4 or 3/8 oz. watermelon Terminator jig and Jig Claw trailers or watermelon Scoundrel worms on wacky rigs. In the lower end moving baits are best. CANYON LAKE

LARGEMOUTH AND SMALLMOUTH are very good from 2' out to 8' breaklines and along breaklines in secondary creek channels with standing timber and stumps and laydowns. BLACKS are best on chartreuse 3" (Creme Lures) Super Tubes, Blue Shad Terminator spinnerbaits, Chameleon Scoundrel worms and 1/4 oz. Terminator jigs. SMALLMOUTH are in 4'-10'. Try 1/8 oz. "hot chartreuse" Terminator spinnerbaits, chartreuse Kapalia grubs and chartreuse 3" Super Tubes. Most of our better fish are inside of secondary creek points and upriver above Cranes Mill.
