Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE

This has been an exceptional year for both largemouth and smallmouth on Canyon Lake. Conditions are ideal for great fishing. Largemouth are moving along secondary creek channels headed for spawning flats in the back of large creeks and pockets. Soft plastics such as "3 amber or chartreuse (Creme Lures) Super Tubes, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, chameleon Scoundrel worms are good in these situations. Over gravel flats in 2'-8' of water try 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits, 1/4 crawfish 'Traps or crankbaits. UPRIVER, work flats on channel turns with stumps and laydowns and feeder creeks with white/char. Terminators, pumpkin Zilla lizards, Terminator jigs and 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads. This action will not last much past the middle of May so book your guided fishing trip with the most experienced, professional, licensed guides on Canyon Lake; JR'S GUIDE SERVICE www.jrguideservice.com Call (830) 833-5688 or email [email protected] LAKE LBJ

All conditions have finally come together and have quality largemouth and crappie in the 12"-17" class on the move to spawn. Blacks are roaming flats next to channels into pockets and bays in 3'-8'. 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, 1/4 oz. white/char. Terminator spinnerbaits, amber (Creme Lures) 3" Super Tubes are all producing for our clients. Mid morning the surface temps begin to warm and fish push into rip rap and rocky points in the lower end. CRAPPIE are very good in 1'-3' on red/char. Most recently STRIPER FISHING has been hit or miss, except for our clients who consistently are catching 18"-26" fish drifting live bait and working pockets along the breaklines of those channels with 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, plastic jerkbaits and large live minnows. LARGEMOUTH have been easier to catch and some quality fish are being caught, especially in pockets and the creeks in 2'-6' using 1/4 oz. silver/blue Terminator spinnerbaits, crawfish crankbaits, 3" amber or chartreuse (Creme Lures) Super Tubes and 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads.
