Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE LBJ

Black Bass to 8.5 lbs. are good in 2'-4' of water in pockets and coves using 3" watermelon or crawfish Super Tubes, 1/4 oz. pumpkin/watermelon Terminator jigs with Killer Krawdad trailers, Camo Scoundrel worms and 1/8 oz. white/char. Terminator spinnerbaits. Lots of males up shallow fanning beds with females hold just a foot or two deeper. CRAPPIE are VERY good in 1'-3' of water over brush along seawalls using red/chartreuse Tiny Tubes, white or chartreuse 1/32 oz. Curb's crappie jigs & minnows. CANYON LAKE

LARGEMOUTH males are fanning beds in 2'-5' of water on flats with wood cover next to deeper channels. Chameleon Scoundrel worms, smoke Super Tubes, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads and Gold Shiner Terminator spinnerbaits are all productive. SMALLMOUTH are still active over rock piles in creeks and pockts in the lower end of the lake using 1/8 oz. char. Terminator spinnerbaits, 3" chartreuse Super Tubes and Kapalia twin tail grubs. WHITE BASS are very good with limits of 12"-17" fish being taken in the river at the rapids above Rebecca Creek on #1 Terminator In-Line spinners, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, roadrunners and live minnows. CHOKE CANYON

This lake is probably the hottest lake in south Texas. LARGEMOUTH to 12 lbs. are being taken (and released, hopefully) in Mason, Greyhound and Possum in the upper lake working laydowns, rip rap on banklines and grass bankshallow out to 4'. Lake points are also producing some very good fish on white/chartreuse 1/4 or 3/8 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits, plastic jerkbaits, redbug Zilla lizards and chartreuse tubes.
