Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE LBJ

LARGEMOUTH are finally over their post-spawn blues and are much more cooperative. We are taking blacks to 6 lbs. on a very early morning top water bite using Zara Spooks, Pop R's & 1/8 and 1/4 oz. Terminator buzzbaits over sloping creek points and stump flats. After full daylight we switch to 1/4 oz. blue shad Terminator spinnerbaits, crawfish or firetiger crankbaits and grasshopper, Ice Tea or watermelon Scoundrel worms. CRAPPIE are holding over brushpiles in channels and creeks in 10'-15' of water. For them we're using chartreuse Tiny Tubes, white or chartreuse 1/16 oz. Curb's crappie jigs or live minnows. STRIPER & WHITE BASS are most active very early in the shoals below Inks dam on live bait, Rat-L-Traps or threadfin Berkley poppers. CANYON LAKE

Conditions remain good for quality fishing & catching on Canyon Lake. For the early morning bite, look for LARGEMOUTH to be holding along chunk rock ledges in 5'-12' of water. We taking bass on a top water bite just before and right at daylight using Zara Spooks, Pop R's and 1/8 or 1/4 oz. Terminator buzzbaits fishing them from right against the shoreline & back out, along laydowns and over submerged trees. After the sun is up work the same areas using 1/8 or 1/4 oz., Terminator spinnerbaits, firetiger crankbaits, amber (Creme Lure) 3" Super Tubes or chameleon Scoundrel worms. UPRIVER at daylight work creek points and stump falts in 4'-10' with the same topwaters and 1/4 oz. 'Traps. After the sun is up switch to a blue shad or Gold Shiner Terminator spinnerbait, watermelon/char. Scremer worm or pumpkin scoundrel or spider jig. STRIPER fishing is fair with fish to 26" being taken drifting live bait over humps in 45'-60' or vertically jigging Horizon Pirk Minnows or Curb's striper jigs.
